THE KLAASSENBOSCH ARBORETUM IS SITUATED IN THE KLAASSENBOSCH
GREEN BELT,
SHOWN IN GREEN BETWEEN SPILHAUS AND HOHENORT
AVE, IN CONSTANTIA,
CAPE TOWN. PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT THE TOP OF
SPILHAUS AVE
Parking is avalable at point A (N -33
59,880; E 18 25,799).
One can walk from A to the ‘pipe bridge’ (N -34
00,125656; E 18 25,87074) along a
track closest to the mountain. When reaching the bridge at point B after a few
minutes, turn left and see the collection of labled tree species on the left.
Then return to point A by following the track close to
the properties of Spilhaus Ave.
Otherwise do not cross the bridge and walk down to the
retention dam, point C (N -34 00,10918; E
18 26,20216). Just before the dam
another part of the arboretum is reached. On the left is also a collection of
indigenous restios.
By crossing the dam wall, another part of the arboretum
is reached at point D (N -34 00,12451; E
18 26,22025 . Four types of yellowwoods
were planted about 20 years ago (mostly the type found in the Knysna forrests).
The track ends at point E, a steel boom which is locked at night. On you right
are good examples of all four types of yellowwood (GPS:, N 34 0,25291; E 18 26,21109).
